Şehir Konuşmaları - Urban Dialogues | Responsibility, Participation and Urbanism • Architect and lecturer Jamel Akbar will be at Iskele on Saturday, March 9th at 14.00 with his speech titled “Responsibility, Participation and Urbanism”. He is going to speak about his latest book, “Qas al-Haq”, which concentrated on economic principles by comparing rights in different cultures such as access to resources, developed conclusions regarding equity, justice, efficiency, production modes, power structures and social settings and their ramifications on the quality of life and built environment.
Jamel Akbar studied architecture at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. After his studies he had his M.Arch.A.S. and Ph.D. degrees at MIT from 1978-1984. From 1984 to 2016, Jamel worked at the University of Dammam. He also worked at MIT as a visiting associate professor in 1990. He has held several academic positions, including Vice Dean, Department Chairman, and Chairman of the Board of the Saudi Umran. Besides his works at universities, he was occupied with developing the concept of his first book “Crisis” that was published in an Arabic book titled “I’marat al-A’rd fi al-Islam”. He also received the 1986 International King Fahad Award for Islamic Architecture and the First Award of the Organization of Islamic Capitals and Cities in 2007. Currently, he works at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University as a lecturer. His most recent book, “Qas al-Haq” is an attempt to explain patterns of economic behaviors, empowerment, justice, equity, globalization, sustainability and the societies’ progress.
