PyMalta: First Steps towards Machine Learning (Part 2)

🎉 The Python Malta community is excited to announce our next meetup event! 🎉

This will be the second part of this 2 part series, where we will introduce Machine Learning using Scikit-Learn.

By the end of this session, you should be able to take part in a friendly competition by submitting your trained machine learning models against our base model and against each other's models.

Note that we highly recommend you attend the first part which takes place this Thursday, the 26th of September (https://www.meetup.com/pymalta/events/264368817/).

• Location
This meetup is graciously sponsored again by Gaming Innovation Group (https://www.gig.com/) who will be hosting us at their offices in Saint Julian's

• Agenda
7:00 pm: Meet at the venue, chatting/networking
7:30 pm - 9:30 pm: First Steps towards Machine Learning (Part 2) - Christopher Zerafa
9:30 pm+: Optional post meetup drinks

• The Talk
In this second session, I will delve deeper into how to choose the optimal hyper-parameter for our model using search techniques. This is known as hyper-parameter tuning.

Furthermore, we will be looking at a direct by-product of Tree-based models: Feature importance.

I will then introduce 3 new tree-based models which offer a lot more predictive power than the naive decision trees, namely:
1. Random Forest Classifiers
2. Extremely Randomised Forest Classifiers
3. Gradient Boosted Tree Classifiers.

With these 4 machine learning models, we will then see how to combine all these into a "super" model which will balance out the individual weaknesses of each of these models. To finish off, we will be hosting a mini-competition which will put together all the things we went through.

• Prerequisites:
- Your laptops
- Installed version of Anaconda (https://www.anaconda.com/) for Python 3.7

• your_talk.py
PyMalta wishes to empower and encourage its user base to present talks at meetups, regardless of their level of experience. your_talk.py is an initiative to allow talk submissions. You can submit an outline of your talk at the link below:

We look forward to your talk submissions and to seeing you all again on the day!

All the best,
