With the rise of the Internet-of-things (IoT) the ability to automate many aspects of our homes has become easy and cost effective. With this has come the development of many online services that help you interact with your home, through your own hardware, over the internet with ease. One of these technologies is IFTTT (If-This-Then-That). It allows you to use a plethora of 3rd party technologies and software services to easily develop “recipes” to automate different aspects of your world.
This month at the Blast Furnace SAPHI will teach us how to build our own smart home brain using IFTTT and the Particle Photon. We will write some code to send commands to and from the Particle Photon using IFTTT to turn on lights and read sensors in our simulated home.
For those interested in the coding comps we will run 6 competitions and give you plenty of opportunity to accrue points for the blast furnace leader board. Make sure you have your CYFERLINX account setup to get the points!
It's a BYOC (bring your own computer) event. We will provide power, WiFi and Pizza!
