The VIP Society is a social club of youngish (25-50) educated professionals in the LA area. We are committed to the idea of creating a community of intellectual exchange and mutual support via regular social events: casual happy hours, dinner parties, concerts, hikes, book clubs. Although the group was started by single folks as a means to introduce our single friends to one another, we welcome solid interesting folks whether they're single, double or triple. 

To the end of creating meaningful connections, we follow these principles:
1) Default to generosity. Hospitality is our core value. We are welcoming to each other, especially newcomers. Treating is particularly encouraged. We aim to help our community members not to the extent of our convenience, but to the extent of our ability.

2) Ask interesting questions. To catalyze deeper conversations, no asking where people are from, what they do for a living, or how they know the host.

3) Leave the phone behind. Holster that sidearm! Resist the temptation to reach for your phone for any reason. That way you can give your interlocutor that rarest of gifts: your full attention. Save the selfies, trivia smackdown verification, and cat-riding-Roomba videos for later. By far the best way I know to be interesting is to be interested. We're here to get some practice with that.

VIP SOCIETY FAQ

Some of you have wondered out loud what the hell this is all about. So, some answers to questions asked and to be asked:

Q: Who comes to these things?

A: Generally young professionals on the Westside or willing to drive there. So far we've got writers, therapists, scientists, attorneys, entrepreneurs, physical therapists, stylists, trainers, dating coaches, cool people from my HIIT gym, at least one professor, and a pro poker player. 
 

Q: What's this VIP thing all about?

A: Check your thumbs. Are they opposable? Then you are probably a Primate. Do you have something to say? Then you are almost certainly Interesting. And are you Vaccinated? Voilà, instant VIP. Our standards ain't sky-high, but you've still got to meet 'em. In the interests of public health, if you're not vaccinated or otherwise immune, the gathering is probably not for you.
