Knulp

Hermann Hesse

(suggested by David)

Knulp is a poignant and lyrical novella centered on the life of a wandering vagabond in pre-World War I Germany.

The narrative unfolds as a portrait of a man who defies convention in favor of freedom and transience. Part folk tale, part philosophical meditation, Knulp blends introspection and poetic realism, examining what it means to live on society’s margins with dignity, charm, and a quiet yearning for belonging.
