Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1975 to promote investigative journalism, enhance accountability in reporting, and provide professional development opportunities for journalists. Through training programs, workshops, annual conferences, and its publication The IRE Journal, the organization guides journalists in research techniques, data analysis, ethical standards, and newsroom security. In collaboration with the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting (NICAR), IRE also leads pioneering efforts in data journalism. Its mission is to support journalists working in the public interest and contribute to building more transparent, fair, and informed societies.
