Thanks for the games and laughs everyone! Have a great new year :)
Funny story: years ago I was on a trip with family that wasn't going so well because of bad weather and my sister buys a copy of Monopoly to pass the time. So unboxing that fresh new copy of Monopoly I got to read the rules for the first time and realized a few things: Most people play the game incorrectly. The game isn't actually all that long. Some newer copies of the game include a "speed die" that expedites the whole "roll to move" aspect. It's actually a pretty okayish game.
I haven't played Monopoly for maybe 20 years. I think I would like to play it "properly", for the first time. But I would use the short rules, where game ends when only one player goes bankrupt.
Games I'm thinking of bringing: -Arcs. A genre-defying space game. A very confrontational and "mean" game, looks like lots of fun! -Catan, with the Atlantis variant added. Various hexes will slowly flood, came can end early if enough hexes go under water. -Monopoly: Yes, I want to play this non-ironically. I haven't touched this for maybe 20+ years. Looking forward to playing it "properly". We didn't do auctions when I was a kid. Any of these sound interesting?
I've practiced teaching the game to my sister, twice. My 2nd attempt was 35 minutes... maybe I can get it below 30 minutes.
Or perhaps I should just link this how to play vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXSEi7TCF44. You can start at 2:44, and stop at 27:25.
