Monthly AI in Robotics Meetup - Road Lane Detection for Self Driving Cars

This is a monthly meetup for people who are interested in A.I. in robotics to connect and learn from each other with the potential to discuss possible collaboration opportunities.

Guest Speaker: Ben Lippmeier

Ben works at Ghost Locomotion in machine learning for self driving cars.

Road lane detection is a key function for self driving cars, and there are a vast array of approaches. One can perform direct detection of lane markers (paint on the road) with a semantic segmentation model, estimate left and right virtual lane lines, produce a center track that the car can drive along or an "ego corridor" describing the drivable space in front of the car. Deep learning models can be based around straight-forward UNet style backbones that process single images at a time, use temporal consistency across multiple frames of incoming video, and use variational techniques that provide confidence measures and detect novel lane configurations. Ben will give an overview of recent work in this field, and talk a bit about what they are doing at Ghost Locomotion here in Sydney to build a new platform for self driving cars.

Also Ghost Locomotion is hiring, join our meetup for more information!
