When you feel included and engaged, do you do a better job? Do you think teams in which people work well together produce much better results? We talk a lot. We “communicate”, or so we say. It takes up large parts of our day. However, did you ever stop and think about our conventional structures of communication? They are either too inhibiting (group presentations, managed discussions) or too disorganised (open discussions, brainstorms). They generate frustration and feelings of exclusion. Our existing structures of conversation fail to help us find the emergent ideas we need to solve our problems.

Liberating Structures help us solve this problem. By actively shaping the form we use to converse with others, by structuring it, we liberate the ideas that otherwise get lost or aren’t even born. This alternative approach is both practical and feasible because Liberating Structures are quite simple and easy to learn. They can be used by everyone at every level, from the executive suite to the grassroots. No lengthy training courses or special talents are required. Mastery is simply a matter of practice. Liberating Structures are easy-to-learn microstructures that enhance relational coordination and trust. They quickly foster lively participation in groups of any size, making it possible to truly include and unleash everyone. Liberating Structures are a disruptive innovation that can replace more controlling or constraining approaches.

During this very, very small introduction workshop, we’ll live and experience a few Liberating Structures by simply doing them. As we already learned, “Mastery is simply a matter of practice”. Come and take your first step with us.

Jelrik was a developer for over 10 years. He now liberates organisations and people from time-wasting and frustrating ways of working, by unleashing the wisdom that is already present in the group.
