Hey there fellow Sippers! Here we are with another edition of the meetup, this time hosted on Onfido's brand new office!
In this edition we'll have the following talks:
• Talk #1: Embracing Elixir at Onfido – an Adoption Story
Speaker: Daniel Caixinha – Software Engineer at Onfido
Elixir is rapidly growing and capturing the interest of more and more developers. Yet, most of the people interested in Elixir aren't using it in their jobs. In this talk, Daniel Caixinha will explore some ways of changing this reality. Merging his experience at Onfido with the knowledge from the "Adopting Elixir" book, he'll go through several aspects for building a business case to adopt Elixir.
• Talk #2: Connecting (every) things with Elixir and Nerves
Speaker: Joaquim Adráz – Software Engineer at Streetbees
Elixir has been getting a lot of traction from the web development world, but these days, Nerves has been making it easy to build embedded systems with Elixir.
In this talk, we are going to dive into the world of embedded systems, and use Elixir to orchestrate a series of interfaces connected to a Raspberry Pi board.
We will interact with the Raspberry Pi and the different sensors, use Ports to interact with external processes and finally pack everything with Nerves.
Here's the schedule for the event:
• 6:30PM - 7:00PM – Registration
• 7:00PM - 7:45PM – Talk #1
• 7:45PM - 8:00PM – Coffee Break
• 8:00PM - 8:45PM – Talk #2
Take the opportunity to mingle, network and share experiences! Last but not least, please keep submitting your talks for future editions of this meetup :) (either send us a message on Meetup or come talk to us on Gitter https://gitter.im/lisbon-elixir/community)
Important note: due to security reasons, we need to have the names of the people attending around lunchtime in the day of the event. Please don't forget to RSVP until January 22, 12pm.
