Writers Lunch: TV Brain--Why Writers Need to Be Readers
About

As the well forecast death of writing looms before us again, we look at a leading cause of doom (and not AI this time). The rise of writers who 'do not read' is upon us, and with it a host of issues. Youth literacy, gatekeeping, writing quality, and gender divides among them. How can you have a writer who doesn't read? Is there such a thing as a horse who doesn't gallop? In this week's Writers Lunch we'll look at TV Brain, a phrase coined by author Lincoln Michel, its logical fallacies and symptoms, as authors and editors who struggle ourselves with description and interiority, time mastery and the inherent advantages the written word has over other mediums of storytelling. With examples and solutions, we're gearing up to diagnose TV Brain and prescribe consistant POV, terse evocative description, and the antidote for redundancy. Join us!
