Hi Friends,

This week our guest will be Meltem Ballan. She started her career in 1997. By training she is a data analyst, algorithm developer and neuroscientist. She established labs, worked on academic projects, published articles and books and involved with grant writing.

This week we talk about the journey of data. "The challenge is to understand the data and preparing it for advance analysis that is where I feel the gap and will talk about these first steps." she said.

She managed large multinational and multidisciplinary projects such as “European Union Harmonization Smartcard based Authentication Systems”. She involved with RFA, project design, risk analysis and matrix management.

When she was working as an academician she realized that big data platforms are needed in academia to improve the quality of studies and repurpose the accurate data over the years by different labs and groups across the US and globe. She co-founded TeraStructure which is a technology spin up, big data analytics platform for some data accumulated by University of North Carolina.

Her passion is DATA and startup/self starter minded companies dealing with data. Data is her way of painting the world. She learns from data and translates in colourful figures and charts. Through out her career she worked at NATO institutions, universities, Groningen University, University of Rochester and University of North Carolina. She stepped out from academia in 2013. She has worked as an independent consultant to help startups with their analytic needs and later for Verizon and now for Southwest airlines as a data scientist. She is currently working as a part of Clarity Insights Data Science Team as a senior consultant.
