Nightwalk: Marsden weir track & knots

Join us on an evening loop to explore old and existing infrastructure and beaut bush visiting the Marsden Valley / Poorman Weir. If any attendees are interested I’ll share how to do some super-handy knots that’re useful in the backcountry. I'll bring some spare bits of cord.

What we’ll do

**

Meeting at the end of Marsden Valley road, we’ll head up across Glider Road and then sidle up-valley to see the Weir before heading back down to the cars. There's some nice bush along the way we can do knots.

What you need

**

Sturdy boots/shoes. This has moments of ‘proper tramping track’ and a possibility of wetting shoes unless you’re a rock-hopper

A bit of shoelace, string or rope (I’ll have some spares)

Headtorch, it's dark!

Windbreaker

More about this

**

This is the first event from Bushcraft Nelson. I intend to host a bunch of events, with a regular evening walk and more adventurous/random things other times.  I started the Bushcraft Wellington Meetup like this years ago, and made wonderful friends and healthy habits grabbing a life best lived. So if you’re new in Nelson/Tasman like me, or just like exploring, learning and getting off your butt, join us!

I am testing out using Kommunity because we can limit attendee numbers and it’s ‘old internet’ re. personal data etc. Anyone’s welcome (even you!) and it’s non-exclusive of all the other great social walk groups around of course.

About host

I'm Larry. I like learning, exploring and helping others. Recently moved to Nelson and have no mates. I’m a reasonably competent North Island tramper but not a qualified backcountry instructor – I can just share my dabblings. Wife and I have a young fella so my trips are scaled accordingly for now!

  • Well, bit of a down buzz that noone turned up! So I went up the hill and enjoyed some views instead, then it got spooky so I came down again. Next time I hope you push yourself to be brave and make it.

Will try again after a week hiatus as I'm doing something next week.

  • Hey folks; I've cross-posted this in 'Trail Walking Nelson' Facebook group, and possibly a few people coming from there too who haven't signed up over here so we may be around 7 people which is a great number. Weather looks fine, stream will be up a bit after this rain so wet boots at the halfway point are quite likely I'd say!
