SYNOPSIS: In spite of modern day Canada’s progressive nature, many Canadians are not aware that Chinese-Canadians were not allowed to serve in the military prior to World War II. At the time, they were not even allowed Canadian citizenship. After much debate in and outside of the community, Chinese-Canadians were allowed to join up to fight the Axis Powers and in doing so undertook unbelievably dangerous missions and lived to tell the tale. This heroism helped gain their right to citizenship and one of the men went on to become Canada's first Chinese-Canadian Member of Parliament. This film screening event is free to attend and all are welcome!
